Lumberjack Willie put together back-to-back Preferred wins when he stormed home to capture Sunday afternoon's feature at Dresden Raceway while leading reinsman Kevin Wallis dominated the card winning six of the 11 races.
Fresh off a victory in a Preferred event at Hiawatha Horse Park last weekend, Lumberjack Willie turned in another half-length, off-the-pace win at the Dresden half-mile oval. With Gene Piroski in the sulky, the five-year-old Lumber Hanover gelding sat fourth for most of the mile in the $7,500 Preferred 3 Handicap Pace before kicking home in :28.1 to edge out pacesetter Slots Of Fun in 1:58.2.
Todd Kennedy trains the bay gelding, who has won four races in 17 starts this year, for owner Rosemary Young.
Wallis' big day began with a natural hat trick in the first three races with Strawberry Muffin ($4.80) for trainer Ron Henderson, Fresh N Fast ($20.10) for Bob McIntosh and Oyster Bed Mary ($12.00) for William Leon. Following the feature race, Wallis guided Luigi ($28.70) to a sixth race victory for Domenico Dicicco and won the eighth with the Leon-trained Ramraider ($4.60) before capping off the card with one more triumph aboard St Lads Dude ($6.10) for Reginald Mulholland.
The resident of Maidstone, Ont. now holds a 12-win lead in the track's drivers standings over Alex Lilley with 24 triumphs this season.
