Eloquent Desire converted a perfect pocket trip into a sloppy score in the featured $1,600 Winners Over Pace on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Exhibition Park Raceway over the track rated four seconds off.
With Mark Haig in the driver's seat, Eloquent Desire tucked into the two-hole behind inside starter and fellow 2-1 second choice After Luck Larry, driven by Gord Hennessey, while Kass Hall and Mike Downey applied first over pressure early on before being rebuffed. After Lunch Larry carved out fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:31.1 before Eloquent Desire swept by him in the stretch for 2:03.1 triumph by over two lengths. Longshot Four Brass Starz and Lonny Stokes came on for third.
The seven-year-old gelded son of Real Desire paid $6.60 to win for the 16th time in his career. He has now won two in a row and half of his 10 seasonal starts for owner-trainer Brian Foster of Barnesville, N.B.
