When you hear the names Donato Hanover and Mystical Sunshine it is hard to think of anything except 'winning' --- and that is exactly what happened Thursday
morning during the Meadowlands Racetrack's qualifying session, when Donato Hanover colt Power Play, Mystical Sunshine's first foal, took to the track for her lifetime charted debut.
Owned by Power Play Stables of Rochelle Park, New Jersey, Power Play stepped out onto the 'Big M's revered one-mile course this morning for Race 7.
With husband Andy Miller driving for wife Julie Miller, Power Play lined up in Post 2. Power Play had great view from the garden spot as he got towed past the opening quarter in :30.2.
The duo made a move to the lead in the second panel. They cleared and opened up two lengths before they clicked off the opening half-mile timer in :59.4.
The $87,000 yearling purchase cruised through a :29.1 third quarter on the final turn, as Power Play cut the three-quarters in 1:29.
Miller asked for a little bit of trot in the final quarter, and his charge responded, as the bay stepped it up with a 28-second final panel.
The win time was 1:57 and the margin of victory two and a half lengths.
Between the two of them, Donato Hanover and Mystical Sunshine recorded 46 career wins and over $5 million in purse earnings.
A total of 15 qualifying dashes filled the Big M's morning docket.
