Driver Ryan Breadner celebrated victory for the first time during Hanover Raceway's first Wednesday
night race card of the season.
The 20-year-old Markdale, ON native drove Northern Avenger to victory in 2:00.1 in the tenth race for trainer Bryan Lawrence of Hanover and owner Mike Forester of Elmira.
Breadner, the son of Allan and Cheryl Breadner of Markdale, says he grew up at the track and mainly at Hanover, so getting his first win at the half-mile oval was pretty special.
Northern Avenger went off as the 36-1 longest shot on the board, and Breadner said he was basically a non-factor in the race, until it seemed to just open up for him coming down the stretch.
As for the seven-year-old son of Apaches Fame-Northern Venture, it was his first win in eight starts this season and ninth lifetime.
Hanover Raceway features live racing every Wednesday night in July and August at 7:20 p.m. plus live racing Saturday nights at 7:15 p.m.
