The top purse event on the Sunday, July 5 twilight card at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania was a $22,857 conditioned trot for two-year-old fillies with a familiar outcome: an Ake Svanstedt-trained trotter was victorious, as Pure Luxury recorded a 1:58.1 score in her purse bow.
Ridge Warren teamed for the successful Svanstedt stable, with Pure Luxury making a move after a :29.3 quarter to take a lead before the :59 half that she would never surrender. She went past the three-quarters in 1:28.4, then finished out in :29.2 to be two lengths clear of Jenna Four The Win (Matt Kakaley). Barfly Armitage (Tyler Buter) was third. Ake Svanstedt Inc. shares ownership in the promising daughter of Six Pack-Won Liner with B Nasstrom Holding Inc. The win price was $5.
The fastest mile of the Sunday program came in the $22,143 claiming handicap pace, with Art Of Revenge ($8.40) paying immediate dividends on a $54,285 claim from his last start with a 1:50.1 triumph. The seven-year-old Art Official-Marthas Revenge gelding, winner of three of his last five starts before changing barns, made the lead from the outside post seven and set pedestrian fractions of :27.1, :56, and 1:24. He was shifted into a higher gear by Pocono driving leader Tyler Buter and stormed home in :26.1. Favoured Statesidelckdwn Gb (Anthony Napolitano) could get within only two lengths of the swift Darren Taneyhill trainee, who now races for Carmen Iannacone. Up The Creek (Braxten Boyd) finished third. Art Of Revenge is 20-for-90 lifetime.
Braxten Boyd and George Napolitano Jr. succeeded two times each on the Sunday card. Ten trainers sent out one winner from their shedrow.
On Monday, Pocono will feature three $30,000 USD divisions of the Pennsylvania All-Stars for two-year-old pacing males, as many of these babies continue to progress to the upper reaches of their division.
