Rebeka Bayama was a repeat winner while Rockn Highland and Mid Town gave Murray Brethour a training double in a trio of $20,000 splits in the second leg of the Town Pro Pacing Series for three-year-old fillies on Tuesday
night at Mohawk Racetrack.
Rebeka Bayama took charge approaching the half and then led the rest of the way in the third division for driver Sylvain Filion. The homebred daughter of Leader Bayama–Joyce Bayama held off a strong pocket-sitter Seriously with favourite Brushstrokes finishing third in the 1:52.3 mile.
The filly was a winner in round one of the series, as well, and improved her seasonal record to four wins in seven starts for trainer Yves Filion’s Bayama Farms of Saint-Andre-D’Argenteuil, Quebec. She kicked back $5.50 as the second choice in the wagering.
Worth noting was the fact that Rebeka Bayama was joined in the winner’s circle by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer Herve Filion.
The fastest time of the three divisions was turned in by Mid Town who used a pylon-skimming trip to win narrowly for driver Randy Waples in 1:51.4. The daughter of Dragon Again–Bunny Town edged out Keene Supreme by a neck with Strait N Great rounding out the top three.
It was just the second win this season in 10 starts for the filly who is owned by trainer Brethour along with Noblock Racing Stable, Fred Brayford and David Heffering. She returned a generous $24.90 in the upset victory.
The lowest priced winner came in the opening division where Rockn Highland delivered as the prohibitive top choice for driver Steve Condren in 1:52. The slick-gaited daughter of Rocknroll Hanover–Armbro Ophelia took charge at the half and then cruised to a half-length decision over Lets Go Get Em with Miz Martha landing the show spot.
Brethour also trains the filly who is owned by Highland Thoroughbred Farm of Inglewood, Ontario. She returned a popular $2.40 while improving her record to a perfect two-for-two this season.
The $60,000 final of the Town Pro Series will go postward next Tuesday night from Mohawk.
