Sweet 16: Windemere Skye Remains Unbeaten

Another chapter was written Sunday, July 5 in one of the best current stories in Canadian harness racing. Three-year-old Windemere Skye improved her career record to 16-for-16 with a 1:56.3 triumph at Truro Raceway in a $24,143 division of The Frank and Beth Stanfield Memorial for pacing fillies.

Sent off as the heavy favorite in the second division, Windemere Skye ($2.10) and Marc Campbell left from post four and their sights on the lead. Longshot Exhilarating (Darryl Maclean) made them work to reach the pylons, defending the inside through a :27.1 first panel. Once clear, Windemere Skye set fractions of :56.3 and 1:27.1 before closing out the mile with a :29.2 last quarter to finish fourth lengths in front. Elm Grove Uncannie (66-1), driven by Ken Murphy, and Exhilarating (164-1) finished on the board.

The Earl Watts trainee is a daughter of Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy. After winning all 12 of her freshman starts, Windemere Skye is now four-for-four in 2026. Owned by Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt Burke of Stratford, P.E.I. The filly increased her career bankroll to $160,706 with the victory.

Earlier on the card, favoured Serenity Now wired the field to claim the first $24,143 Stanfield Memorial division, turning in a 1:55.4 performance with Jason Hughes in the bike. Taking control from post two, the sophomore set the tempo with fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.2. Serenity Now kicked home in :28.2 for a 1-1/4-length tally. Staggerette (Corey Macpherson) sped home for second while pocketsitter Mysterious Ways (Adam Merner) finished third.

Trained by Ashley Gamester, Serenity Now is a Sportswriter-Silent Serenity filly owned by Kurt Hughes of Alexandra, P.E.I. The victory was the third win in four seasonal starts. She has hit the board in 11 of 12 career attempts, with earnings of $40,035.

Favourite Alwaysinfullforce turned in a gate-to-wire effort to capture the third Stanfield Memorial division, winning her second consecutive with a 1:55.3 effort. Driven by Gilles Barrieau for trainer Mike McGuigan, the sophomore pacing filly clicked off fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:26.4 before sprinting home in :28.4. Saulsbrook Carly (Murphy) finished 3-1/4-lengths behind, with Saulsbrook Desi and driver Keith Legge a distant third.

The Force N Fury-Toujours sophomore is owned by James Whalen Jr. of Vernon River, P.E.I. Alwaysinfullforce has won four of seven seasonal starts and five of 20 career attempts. Her career earnings now stand at $53,408.

Another subplot of the Truro program was the combined success of Watts and Campbell. The trainer-driver team connected for three wins on the day, including two Atlantic Sires Stakes scores. Malicious Benny claimed the first of three $10,000 “A” divisions, winning by two lengths with a 1:58.1 clocking. Getting away third in a field of six, the gelding sat through a :29.1 first station before Campbell moved him to the outside. The favourite advanced through a :59.4 half and 1:29.1 three quarters to challenge leader Cusisaidsothatswhy and Barrieau in the turn. Malicious Benny put away the field with a :29 last quarter to win his debut, followed across the wire by Southdale Jeff (Merner) and Woodmere Fergus, piloted by Macpherson.

Malicious Benny is an altered son of Malicious-Howmacs Princess owned by Wade Peconi of Stanchel, P.E.I.

Macpherson placed Woodmere Rock It on the engine early, and the favourite delivered in the second “A” split, turning in the fastest of the top divisions with a 1:56 effort. Leaving from post five, Woodmere Rock It put a head in front at the :28.1 first quarter, but the rest of the way maintained a comfortable advantage through panels of :58.1 and 1:28.1. The freshman closed with a snappy :27.4 last quarter to go two-for-two to start his career. Much More Malice (Barrieau) and Bowser (Jason Hughes), who followed the leader throughout the mile, finished in the same order.

Owned by Thestable Woodmererock It of Guelph, Ont., Woodmere Rock It is a Tobago Cays-Musette Mindale gelding trained by Jamie Smith.

Macpherson steered Woodmere Dougal to an impressive 13-3/4-length romp in the other “A” division in a mile timed in 1:56.4. The trainer patiently sat in line third along the pylons as favoured Oceanview Snoop (Campbell) set fractions of :28.4 and :58.2. Macpherson soon brushed to the lead with his gelding, up by more than two lengths at three quarters (1:28.2) before distancing the field in the stretch with a :28.2 clocking. Wilson Cassidy (Mike Pezzarello) raced second as Oceanview Snoop faded to third.  

It was an impressive debut for the Bet The Moon-Princess Rusty freshman owned by Peter Smith of Stratford, P.E.I. and Gerald Morrissey of Charlottetown, P.E.I.

A trio of $6,000 ATSS “B” divisions for freshman pacing colts also were contested Sunday. Campbell and Watts notched their first win of the day with favourite Littlebit Of Lovin ($4.10), victorious by 5-1/4-lengths in a time of 1:58.3. The Malicious-After The Lovin gelding is owned by Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I., Lana Murphy of Saint John, N.B., Clive Balderston of Moncton, N.B. and Sharon Francis of Brackley Beach, P.E.I.

The Prosecutor overcame a break before the start and converted his debut into a 1-1/4-length victory for driver/trainer Darryl Maclean, tripping the timer in 1:59.4. The Source Of Pride-Atomic Smile colt is owned by the conditioner in partnership with W Gordon Maclean of Winsloe, P.E.I. and Stephen Downey of Quispamsis, N.B.

Bet On Davie received every call on the way to a dominant 2:00.3 score for driver/trainer McGuigan in the last division. The gelded son of Bet The Moon-Highland Dancer finished 4-3/4-lengths in front for owners Josh Macdonald of Little Pond, P.E.I., Alex Macdonald of Little Pond, P.E.I. and Nancy Macdonald of Little Pond, P.E.I.

Bronx Drifter wired the field and turned in an impressive eight-length tally in the $2,500 Winners Over Pace. The five-year-old Yankee Cruiser-Pascals Wager gelding set fractions of :28, :57.1 and 1:27.1 for driver Landon Campbell before closing out the mile with a :28.4 last quarter. Trained by Trevin Shive, Bronx Drifter is owned by Dr. James Shive of Rines Creek, N.S.

Jmr Speak Away moved to the lead after a :27.3 opening panel and remained in front through fractions of :56.3 and 1:25.4 to collect the $5,000 Lindsay Construction Jr. Invitational Pace in a 1:54.2 effort. Trainer Darren Crowe steered the favourite, a two-length winner. Early leader Hunters Hero challenged in the last turn but had to settle for second. Bettor On Than Off paced third. Kevin Harvey of Halifax, N.S. owns the five-year-old Artspeak-Moms Bella gelding, now a four-time winner in 2026.
