Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted a short qualifying session on Tuesday morning (July 5) with five races contested over a sloppy track.
Among the qualifying winners was three-year-old pacing filly Delight Bayama, a three-time Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots winner last year for trainer Jean Tourigny and owner/breeder Bayama Farms. Making her fourth qualifying start this season in rein to Sylvain Filion, the Bettors Delight filly out of Grand Circuit stakes winner Rebeka Bayama romped to a 14-length victory in 1:57.3, with a :28.4 final quarter over the track that was rated three seconds off. Unlaced, Technical Bluechip and Ground Hog Day completed the reduced field.
Delight Bayama was a late-closing runner-up in the 2021 Grassroots Championship to complete her rookie campaign during which she put together a 4-2-1 record from seven starts and banked $62,650.
Also trained by Tourigny, three-year-old trotting filly Silver Diamond won her qualifier in 1:59.4.
Freshman filly Salla (My MVP-Vuokatti) topped a pair of three-year-old trotters to win her second outing in a 2:05 mile for trainer Julie Walker.
The fastest winners of the morning session were Play Jet Ray (1:56.4) on the pace and White Tiger (1:58) on the trot.
