Driver Philip Giesbrecht and trainer Marc Fillion swept a pair of $4,878 Manitoba Great Western Stake eliminations Saturday night at Killarney Fair
.
Alcars George and Griesbrecht followed Drumheller (Greg Manning) three-wide past the three-quarters mark and faced off down the stretch in the first elimination. Alcars George prevailed by a half-length in 2:04.3 in an 8-1 upset over the favourite. Follow Through (Darryl Mason) finished third. The sophomore son of Armbro President-Hooneedsalift won for the first time in six outings this year.
Fresh off a Silk Lace victory at Miami Fair, Heartland Friendha also made a big move at the third quarter in her elimination. The Firm Friend-Hah filly, who sat fifth for most of the mile, went four-wide and sprinted home to win in 2:02.4. The time of the mile was a new track record for three-year-old pacing fillies as it shaved one-fifth of a second off P Ts Fancy's former mark. Notch Yer Best (Dean Rey) finished a length behind and Aces Attitude (Cory Manning) was third. She is now two-for-five on the year.
Allan and Carole Drader of Brookdale, MB own both winners.
