The P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series, presented by Red Shores, will take centre stage on Saturday, July 4 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 14-dash presentation starting at the new Saturday post time of 5 p.m. that will be carried through every Saturday in July and August at both Red Shores properties. The $8,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Gold event lines up in Race 11 as the top event on the program.
One Wicked Man has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favourite from post five with Kenny Arsenault driving and training the four-year-old son of Mcwicked-Alexander Valley for owner James Perrot. The hard-hitting pacer has been knocking heads in the top conditioned ranks and will look to take control of the Graduate Series event in this opening leg.
Merigo Magic (3-1) is another major player from post six with Adam Merner handling the training and driving duties. The five-year-old son of Tobago Cays-Meridian Magic, owned by Mike May, Herman McQuaid and Derrick Cameron, was a winner in 1:54.4 already this season. Phil My Beer (7-2) has post two with Marc Campbell in the seat for trainer Landon Campbell while Malignity (4-1) leaves from post seven with Corey MacPherson driving for trainer Paul Langille.
The Preferred 1 Pace takes to the track in Race 13 for a $7,000 purse with Get Wings the 5-2 top morning-line choice from post four for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Vaughan Doyle and owners Gary Ford and Janet Kinney. The four-year-old son of Bettors Wish-The Captains Angel has been sharp since arriving in Atlantic Canada and will look for his third straight victory.
Bee Two Bee gets post seven as the 3-1 second choice on the morning line with Jason Hughes driving for trainer Ashley Gamester and owners Donald MacRae and Blair MacLauchlan. The nine-year-old Sunshine Beach-Bee Fullof Steinam stallion continues to be a major threat every time he lines up. Arbitrage Hanover (7-2) has post six with Ken Murphy in the bike for trainer Clifford Murphy after charging down the stretch to finish second last week to Ammo, who is absent this week. Nuttin But Finesse (4-1) leaves from post five for driver Mike Downey and trainer Ellen Stevenson.
The Post Time Picks likes Arbitrage Hanover to win.
“Have a closer peek at the line from last week, because Arbitrage Hanover flew home in :27.1 to nab the deuce. He’s back in the same spot this week and if Murphy has him close at the top of the lane, they could get all the marbles.”
Race 5 is the $3,900 Provincial Credit Union pace with Bentley the 5-2 morning-line favourite from post three. Corey MacPherson drives the Pang Shui-Western four-year-old for trainer John Clarey and owner Michael Clarey. Jk Last Chance (3-1) has post seven for trainer-driver Arsenault, and Dusty Lane Levi (7-2) is another contender from post five with Marc Campbell in the bike for trainer Earl Watts.
