Stirling Cadet went coast to coast to take Sunday’s $15,000 Open Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

The five-year-old Conway Hall trotter marched out to the early lead in a quick quarter of :27.2 before getting a second quarter breather. The race’s 2-1 co-favourite, Stirling Cadet was met with the challenge of a first-over Cash Me Out (Jim Devaux) and battled that one throughout the final half before holding on to win in 1:55. Cash Me Out battled gamely to finish second while Flyhawk Thriller (Stephane Bouchard) earned the show spot.

It was the second win of an Open in as many nights for Stirling Cadet’s connections as owner the Kellogg Racing Stables, trainer Jackie Rousse and driver Frank Coppola Jr. teamed up for a victory with Artful Way in Saturday night’s Open Pace. For Stirling Cadet, who has now been in the money in five straight installments of the Sunday feature, it was victory number four on the season and his second in the local Open.

Live harness racing continues at Saratoga on Monday afternoon with a holiday matinee set to kick off at 12:15 p.m.
