Horse Racing New Brunswick Executive Director Roberta Nixon has stated that a plan is being crafted to prevent future delays in the payment of purse winnings from races that are contested in the province.
Nixon’s comments have come via a CBC article that focuses on racing in the province.
New Brunswick’s season of live harness racing got underway a little bit later this year, as the first 2015 program in the province took place at Fredericton Raceway on Canada Day.
The report explains how industry participants are frustrated because some purse winnings from races that were contested last fall have yet to be doled out, even though purse races were held Wednesday.
"We're very frustrated and we've been patient,” Dawn Hubbard, the owner of Ultimate Stables, said in part.
The article states that industry participants are not happy with the situation, but many of them are relieved that the 2015 season is underway.
"It is not a good thing, but we've been through tough times before," owner and horseman Charles Miles told the CBC, adding, "we will get through this and hopefully we'll come out the other end much better for it."
