The Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association is pleased to announce that the annual Premiers Pace racing event will be offering additional racing opportunities for 2013, and expand to both PEI racetracks.
Traditionally a one-race feature of Old Home Week, this year the event will be expanding to a two legs and a final. Leg One will be held Sunday, August 4 at Red Shores' Summerside, with Leg Two Sunday, August 11 at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park. The Premiers Pace final will be held Saturday, August 17 as part of the Gold Cup and Saucer evening program.
“We are able to offer this expanded series due to the increased wager at our tracks so far in 2013,” stated Tom Clark, vice president of the PEIHRIA. “Wagering on our PEI product both on track and at other tracks across North America, has been very strong which provides the revenue to offer this additional racing opportunity. “
Horses must nominate to the series by July 30, 2013 and is open to three-year-old and older pacers that have had a minimum of three pari-mutuel starts in 2013 within the Atlantic provinces. Each leg will race for a purse of $4,000, with the final to race for $7,500 (added) ($10,000 estimated), and a consolation for $5,000.
