Now a winner in six of her last seven, Look A Diamond remained razor sharp on the Monday (July 27) card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, scoring in the $28,000 event for OSS Grassroots Starters which highlighted to 10-race program.
Look A Diamond left alertly as the 1-5 favourite, with driver Trevor Henry sending her away from post four as that tandem was parked and pressing to the outside of Press On Ballykeel (Tyler Borth) through an opening quarter of :27.4. Look A Diamond cleared off the first turn before surrendering the lead to Very Sassy (Todd Ratchford) who was without a seat prior to clearing at the halfway point in :56.4. Very Sassy remained in control on the final turn, racing to three-quarters in 1:26 while Press On Ballykeel was back out from third, leaving Look A Diamond pinned in the pocket.
Very Sassy brought the field into the lane with Look A Diamond able to shake off the cones when Press On Ballykeel began to retreat midway through the stretch. Once clear, Look A Diamond made quick work of Very Sassy, trotting away by 2-1/4 lengths on the wire to stop the timer in a career best 1:55.4. Very Sassy held for second, with Life Is Great (Tyler Jones) rallying for third.
Trained, owned and bred by Peter Hamilton of London, Ont., Look A Diamond has now won nine of 12 in her sophomore campaign. The three-year-old daughter of Lookslikeachpndale-Black Diamond Star has banked $85,510 on the season.
