The father-son team of trainer Gregg McNair and driver Doug McNair swept a pair of $8,000 Future Stars Pace filly eliminations, for Ontario-sired two-year-old pacers
that are non-winners of $5,000, on Wednesday at Hanover Raceway.
In between the colt eliminations, the fillies faced off in a pair of $8,000 events with Frown Upside Down and Jens Underdog delivering winning performances for the McNairs.
Frown Upside Down, the 3-2 favourite, converted from the pocket to win her elimination by a head over pacesetter Windmachine in 2:01.1. Eternal Lady was third. The Grinfromeartoear-Sanctuary filly scored her first win after failing to hit the board in two Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots starts for Gregg McNair and co-owner William Brown of Hanover, Ont.
Jens Underdog, the 5-2 second choice in the next elimination, rallied home to win in 2:00.1 by one length over Nics Regal Lass. Alexacam finished third. Ian Fleming of Londesborough, Ont. owns and bred the Western Maverick-Tymal Artista filly, who also finished off the board in two prior Grassroots starts.
In the two colt eliminations, P C Shockwave and Beiber Fever rallied from off the pace to score a pair of upsets.
P C Shockwave rallied home to score a 1:59.1 half-length victory in the first elimination for driver Curtis Clements and trainer Peter Clements, who share ownership of the Peruvian Hanover-Feelinluckytonight colt. The 7-1 fifth choice upset the popular pocket-sitter Instant Thrill while Thunder Noise rounded out the top three. This win was his second in three career starts.
Todd Ratchford’s Bieber Fever, the second longest shot on the board, came on to score a 16-1 upset in the second colt event in 2:00 flat. The son of Trigger Effect-Harvest Table, who won for the first time in two starts, finished one length ahead of Graphic Seelster and No Waffling.
Both $20,000 (added) finals will be contested next Wednesday at Hanover.
