Harrington Raceway’s richest program of the season was contested Thursday, July 25 at the Delaware State Fair with more than $890,410 in total purses.
All of the races on the 13-race program were for Delaware-owned and/or bred horses.
The $150,685 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final events for three-year-olds comprised much of the purse allocation, in addition to long-time events for older horses like the $68,493 Governor’s Cup.
Driver Tim Tetrick had four wins on the card, including two for trainer Jim King Jr. in DSBF finals with filly pacer Curtsyforpurrseco ($3.40; pictured in a previous win) in 1:56.1, owned by Jo Ann Looney-King and Brett MacDonald’s male trotter Workslikeacharm ($7.60) in 1:59.3. Curtsyforpurrseco (Roddys Bags Again - Purrfectly Bad) overcame post eight in her 11th career win, while Workslikeacharm (E L Platinum - Charming Oaks) was second placed first after Royal Beep Beep was disqualified after failing to lose ground while on a break and leaving the course.
The DSBF male pacing final saw Captain Pete ($3.80, Allan Davis) win in wire-to-wire fashion from post eight in 1:55 for owners Mulligan and Calcutta Stables and Denise Davis. The Roddys Bags Again gelding notched his eighth career win in 12 starts for trainer Jason Johnson.
In the filly trotting final, Gary Rhodes’ Lovies Place ($3.40, Art Stafford Jr.) was a lifetime best-1:57.3 winner for her sixth career win for her trainer/driver. The E L Platinum filly is unbeaten in four starts this year.
In the $68,493 Governor’s Cup, Andrew Glassmeyer’s Sweet Angel Boy ($4.80, Tony Morgan) emerged from the pocket a 1:51.1 winner for his owner/trainer. The six-year-old Sweet Lou now sports $144,133 in seasonal earnings.
