Chinnys Wings pulled off a sweep of the Oxford County Trotting Series with a wire-to-wire score in the $37,800 final on Saturday afternoon at Woodstock Raceway and in doing so he extended his win streak to five
.
The top eight separately owned money earners advanced to Saturday’s final of the three-week late-closing series.
With trainer and co-owner Doug Bowins in the bike, the heavily favoured son of Armbro Ricochet left from Post 4 and circled the Woodstock half-miler while flashing panels of :28.4, 1:00.2 and 1:30.1. Chinnys Wings then pulled away by five lengths before stopping the clock in 2:00.1 over a track rated two seconds off.
J N Baroness (Bruce Richardson) and Muggles (Terry Kerr) finished second and third respectively.
Donald Brinkman of East Coulee, Ont. also shares ownership of the four-year-old gelding, who has now won 12 times in 17 starts during his debut season. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his bankroll to $65,417.
In Preferred action, Just Plug It In and driver Doug McNair prevailed in the $20,000 pace for trainer Duane Marfisi and Ontario owners Alan Alber, Aaron Waxman and the PSHL Stable.
The five-year-old Artsplace gelding advanced to the lead from Post 4 at the :27.4 opening quarter and reached the half in :57.1 before feeling pressure from the outer flow led by All The Weapons (Brad Forward). Digging in past three-quarters in 1:26.1, Just Plug It In, the 5-1 fifth choice, was able to hold off All The Weapons for the victory in 1:56 by three-quarter lengths. The favoured Secret Weapon (Jody Jamieson) came on for third.
In 12 starts this year, the five-year-old gelding has recorded five wins with earnings equaling $46,908. Over the course of his career, Just Plug It In has won 16 times banking $234,266 in purses.
