Chinnys Wings pulled off a sweep of the Oxford County Trotting Series with a wire-to-wire score in the $37,800 final on Saturday afternoon at Woodstock Raceway and in doing so he extended his win streak to five.

The top eight separately owned money earners advanced to Saturday’s final of the three-week late-closing series.

With trainer and co-owner Doug Bowins in the bike, the heavily favoured son of Armbro Ricochet left from Post 4 and circled the Woodstock half-miler while flashing panels of :28.4, 1:00.2 and 1:30.1. Chinnys Wings then pulled away by five lengths before stopping the clock in 2:00.1 over a track rated two seconds off.

J N Baroness (Bruce Richardson) and Muggles (Terry Kerr) finished second and third respectively.

Donald Brinkman of East Coulee, Ont. also shares ownership of the four-year-old gelding, who has now won 12 times in 17 starts during his debut season. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his bankroll to $65,417.

In Preferred action, Just Plug It In and driver Doug McNair prevailed in the $20,000 pace for trainer Duane Marfisi and Ontario owners Alan Alber, Aaron Waxman and the PSHL Stable.

The five-year-old Artsplace gelding advanced to the lead from Post 4 at the :27.4 opening quarter and reached the half in :57.1 before feeling pressure from the outer flow led by All The Weapons (Brad Forward). Digging in past three-quarters in 1:26.1, Just Plug It In, the 5-1 fifth choice, was able to hold off All The Weapons for the victory in 1:56 by three-quarter lengths. The favoured Secret Weapon (Jody Jamieson) came on for third.

In 12 starts this year, the five-year-old gelding has recorded five wins with earnings equaling $46,908. Over the course of his career, Just Plug It In has won 16 times banking $234,266 in purses.
