Golden Boys & Silk Lace Ladies To Miami

Manitoba-sired three-year-old pacing colts and fillies headed to Miami Fair on Saturday for the second leg of the Golden Boy and Silk Lace

Odds-on favourite Art For The Heart overcame early interference, caused by breaker Blameitonthat (Greg Manning), and an overland journey to win the first of two $4,133 Golden Boy divisions in 2:05.1 for driver Darryl Mason and trainer Don Anness, who shares ownership with Shield Anness of Emo, ON. In Grand Style (Roland Rey) finished one length behind and Workingmansphd (Ron Cullen) was third.

The gelded son of Firm Friend-Cute N Crafty, who finished second in his first Golden Boy division on July 3 at Holland Fair, earned his first win in four outings this year.

Classicandregal and trainer-driver Dallas McGee led from start to finish in the second division, getting his nose to the wire first for the 9-1 upset in 2:02.3 over a pocket pulling Aces Attitude (Cory Manning). Favourite Aidans Prince (Darryl Mason) was third.

Lottie McGee of Deloraine, MB owns the Royal Dilemma-Dawns Majestic colt. Unraced as a two-year-old, Classicandregal has now won two times in five outings. He finished sixth in the first leg of the Golden Boy.

Sitting in fifth, favourite Heartland Friendha suffered interference from breaker Anythinbutordinary (Dean Rey) at the half, but then launched a first over bid and kicked away by five and a quarter lengths to win the first $4,142 Silk Lace split in 2:02.3 with trainer Marc Fillion in the bike. Pacesetter Keep Your Secrets (Philip Giesbrecht) and Special Flaire (Roland Rey) tied for second.

Owned by Allan and Carole Drader of Brookdale, MB, the Firm Friend-Hah filly is two-for-five this season thanks to her prior win in the opening round of the Silk Lace.

What A Rose and Roland Rey, the 4-1 third choice in the next Silk Lace split, converted from the pocket past the halfway point and collared pacesetter and fan favourite Gaits Princess (Dean Rey) by the next marker. The Prince Brian-Countess P J filly maintained her lead into the stretch and stopped the clock in 2:02 winning by one and a quarter length. Gaits Princess stayed for second while Deal Me A Queen (Marc Fillion) finished third.

Arthur Rey owns and trains while Roland Rey bred the winning filly, who was second in her first Silk Lace split. Unraced at two, What A Rose is now three-for-four in her career.

In other action, Dance Step cruised to a five length score in the $2,000 Open Pace, winning for the third consecutive time, in 1:57.3. The time of the mile eclipsed Noonday Hardball’s 1:58.1 track record for aged geldings. Greg Manning trains and drives the five-year-old son of Real Desire-Lite On Her Feet for owners Donald Ransom of Boissevain-Keith Earle, Bill Lowrie and Bob Stremich, all of Winnipeg, MB.
