Freshmen faced the tight turns of the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Honesdale, Pennsylvania on Sunday (July 22).
In a $5,866 division of the PA Sire Stake filly trot, Lady Broadway and driver Bryce Truitt earned a 2:10 win. It was the fourth win in seven career starts for the Broadway Hall filly. Trainer John McMullen co-owns with Michelle McMullen.
In the second filly trotting division, Photosavvy scored in 2:12 for owner, trainer and driver Chris Offutt. The Classic Photo filly has now won twice in six appearances.
Three $4,168 divisions of filly pacers were up next in PASS action, and DVC Jaded Attitude won her race by open lengths in 2:07.3, pacing a :29.1 last quarter for driver Dave Brickell, who also owns and trains the Magical Mike filly.
Roger Hammer’s Lifesarealbeach then went wire-to-wire in the second group, pacing in 2:07.3 after backing off the half to 1:08. Hammer trains and drove the Somebeachsomewhere filly.
In the final division, Quik Response, driven by Hammer, and Named Desire, driven by Timmy Offutt, battled side by side to the half in 1:02.4, but both later broke stride, leaving Wicked Elphaba to pick up the pieces and record a 2:05.3 win for driver Matt Cox. The Western Terror filly is owned by Tanah Merah Farms and trained by Erv Miller.
In the first division of the colt trot, BSMaximummoondream continued his dominance on the circuit, winning for the fifth time in seven starts. The Bedford County gelding is owned by Dave and Sue Brickell. Dave Brickell trains and was in the bike for the 2:10.4 win.
The second colt trot was captured by Montour County, driven by Drew Chellis for the McMullen Stable. Montour County (Sierra Kosmos), spotted the field more than a dozen lengths after making a break behind the gate, but steadily moved up throughout the mile and got up in the final stride over More Proof and driver Dave Brickell. Montour County was timed in 2:14.2.
Albany House, an Andover Hall colt owned by Hammer and the Erv Miller Stable, got up in the closing stride to win the final division over frontrunning Broadway Stepup and driver Chris Offutt. The winning time was 2:11.1. Hammer trains and drove the five-time winner.
The finale for the day was the richest race thus far on the fair circuit in 2012, as a field of five faced the starter for $11,761 in the lone division of the PASS colt pace. Roger Hammer came from behind to get the win with Falcons Breeze, a Nuclear Breeze homebred. The winning time was 2:06.2, as Falcons Breeze held off a late challenge from Shady City and driver James Dill.
After a week off, the circuit will move to the Clearfield County Fairgrounds for four days of action beginning July 30.
