Tyler Redwood continued to dominate the harness racing meet at Cornerstone Raceway in Yorkton putting together a five-win night Friday.
"I've never had a handful [five wins] before. I can't even describe it. It's great," he said when asked about the big night. "I don't even know where to start...I'm floating in front of you."
Arguably the biggest win of the quintet came early in the night as Judges Discretion took to the track in race five riding an eight-race winning streak. Redwood made it nine-in-a-row topping Richard Remillard with Miss Tinkerbelle and Travis Cullen with Starshine Jet in 2:03.2.
When asked if the ninth straight win for the seven-year-old mare was the biggest of the night, Redwood was quick to reply "of course it was."
"I came to tears after that one. I was so happy for dad [horse owner Kelvin Godlien], so happy for the people working back here [at the barns]."
Redwood is naturally looking ahead to next week and a potential double digit winning streak.
"We talked about that four weeks ago how 10 would be a nice number," he said, adding he is pretty sure it has been some time since a horse has carried that off in Western Canada.
Redwood was also in the winner's circle following the Yorkton Exhibition Fillies & Mares Open Pace, topping the race with Spring Baby in 2:02 over Hugh Woods and Tajerine Dream and Glenn LeDrew with Oral Fixation.
The Open Pace win came on the heels of wins with Ignite The Spark and Marlowe, making it three straight wins in the midst of the five.
Redwood said it was great to get the stakes race win with its $3,120 purse. The stakes win was one Redwood said he wasn't sure was going to go his way.
"At the three-quarter pole I thought Tajerine Dream was just playing with me and was going to drive away," he said, but added Spring Baby had other ideas and fought past for the win.
The final Redwood win came in the ninth race of the night with Light The Board.
Kevin Siever also had a big win with Kalahari Cajun, taking the Flaman Sales & Rentals Pace in 2:04.1 over Cullen with Simply Dynamite and Brian Gary with The Missing Sock.
Siever said Cajun "is starting to come along," although is not 100 per cent with a nagging injury that isn't bad enough to keep him in the barn, but has hurt his performance at times. That said, the three-year-old has two wins, two place and a show finish in six starts this season.
Siever said the race did not go "at all" as he had envisioned it.
"I thought maybe I'd get to the front [from a two-hole start position]," he said, but that didn't happen. But on the final corner he came hard and won going away.
