Freshmen pacing colts and fillies converged at Fredericton Raceway for Atlantic Sires Stakes action on Wednesday night, which saw Putnams Power and

Acton Noisey remain undefeated.

Longshot Pictonians Souwest advanced first up from fourth and struck the front at the third quarter station before kicking home in :28.4 to win the first of three $7,380 'A' divisions for colts by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:59.3. Sent postward as the odds-on favourite, pacesetter J G S Sandy (Gilles Barrieau) finished second while Island Inspiration (Kenny Arsenault) rounded out the top three.

Mike Stevenson trains and drives Pictonians Souwest, who paid $21.30 to win as the longest shot on the board at 9-1. Daniel Ross of Belfast, PE purchased the son of Western Paradise-Southview Sasha, who was making his second lifetime start, for $10,000 as a yearling at the Atlantic Classic sale. He is a full brother to Maritime stakes winner Southview Spirit.

Putnams Power kept his four-race record untarnished with a gate-to-wire victory in the next colt division. The Force Of Life-Southview Shania colt, driven by Danny Romo, turned back early challenger Tiger Williams (Earl Smith) and went all the way to take a new mark of 1:59.2. A :28.3 final frame propelled him to a two and a half length score over Aarons Ambition (Mark Bradley) and the slight favourite, The Eagle (Gilles Barrieau).

Putnams Power paid $5.50 to win as the second choice in the field. The winner of $10,494 is trained and owned in part by Ronald Seymour, Jr., whose father owns and trains his three-year-old half-brother, ATSS colt Accelerated Putnam. Fellow Glace Bay, NS resident Bruce Donovan also shares ownership of Putnams Power.

Calmlea Justin wrapped up the action for the boys with a maiden-breaking victory in 2:02.1 for trainer Ralph Sweet, who also co-owns with Dale Wood of Coleman and Kenneth and David Sweet of O'Leary, PE.

The $4,200 Atlantic Classic sale purchase, a son of Force Of Life-Zbojnicka, inherited the lead in the stretch when favourite The Streak (Gillies Barrieau) made a break, which caused interference to most of the field. Calmlea Justin won by two and three-quarters lengths with Meter Leader (David Carey) and Royal Putnam (Bernard McCallum) finishing second and third. The 7-2 third choice paid $9.90 to win. He is a half-brother to ATSS and Bill Quigg Memorial Stake winner Calmlee Jason, by Drop Off.

With Todd Trites between the wheels, Acton Noisey remained undefeated thanks to her wire-to-wire winning effort in the first of two $9,760 ‘A’ divisions for fillies. The Nicholas White-trained filly was tested seriously by Our Lady Byng (Kenny Arsenault) in the stretch, but fought back to win in 2:02.2. Favourite Bemused (Marc Campbell) finished one length behind in second off a pocket trip and Countisfleet (Mike Stevenson) rallied off cover to get third over Our Lady Byng.

Acton Noisey paid $9.50 to win as the 7-2 third choice in the field. The daughter of Harrods-Cora Belle has earned $11,484 in her first three starts for owner Stephen Morton of Windsor, NS.
