The first leg of the Dream Maker Pacing Series for two-year-old pacers got underway on Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with Malicious and Whackamole Hanover taking their respective $20,000 splits
.
Paul MacDonell had no problem getting the job done in the opening division with Malicious, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Dr. Ian Moore. The son of Bettors Delight-Silky, who was a 1:55.3 winner in his Ontario debut at Mohawk on July 13, front-stepped his way to a 1:54.2 victory in tonight’s assignment.
Malicious released Rafferty Hanover to the lead at the quarter-pole in :27.1 before coming back right around for the re-take. He cleared easily and led the field through middle splits of :58.2 and 1:27.4 before roaring home in :26.3. It was more than two lengths back to runner-up Rafferty Hanover. Keystone Raptor rounded out the top three.
Moore along with Serge Savard and R G McGroup Ltd share ownership on the youngster, who was a $45,000 purchase at last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale.
Jody Jamieson rallied the Tim Pinske-trained Whackamole Hanover to a 1:55.4 score in the second division. The son of Cams Card Shark-Western Duel halted the teletimer in 1:55.4 en route to defeating Mcaracas and Shopping Desire.
Pinske Stables and Jim Simpson hold the papers on the colt, who sold for $40,000 at the 2008 Harrisburg Yearling Sale.
The second leg of the Dream Maker Pacing Series goes next Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with the $55,000 (est.) final on Monday, August 3.
