Last week Sambucca Mystic lit up the board when he captured the opening leg of the Boys Of Summer Pacing Series at Rideau Carleton Raceway
, but on Sunday night he gained a great deal of respect en route to posting his second straight win.
With trainer Jacques Hebert at the controls, Sambucca Mystic took over command on the way to the half and he kept on rolling en route to a 2:00.1 score for owner/breeder Dr. Gerard Tremblay of Bromont, Quebec.
The son of Omar Khayam-Intriguante Mystic, who was sent off as the 9-5 second choice in the wagering, defeated the heavily favoured two-horse entry sent out by trainer Gilchrist. Tank Murdock, one part of that entry, was second best while his stablemate/entrymate, Quick And Royal, rounded out the top three in the nine-horse affair.
Sambucca Mystic, who is now 2-for-2 to start his career, stashed away a $3,750 paycheque for his effort on Sunday night. Based on back-to-back wins in the preliminary legs of the series he figures to be the one to knock in next week’s final.
In other Sunday evening action at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Match Bayama eked out a neck decision in the $12,100 Preferred Pace for trainer Sebastien Giroux and driver John MacDonald.
The seven-year-old son of Goliath Bayama-Dolly Mattison rallied from just off the pace en route to posting the 1:54 score over Best Show In Town. Imjustalittleguy tagged along to finish third in Sunday’s main event.
Les Ecuries Giroux Inc., Kevin Skilton and Jacques Caron share ownership on the 29-time winner, who won for the fifth time in 18 trips to the track this season. He has banked in excess of $48,000 this season and more than $284,000 to date.
