In reaction to Friday's Plan for Horse Racing in Ontario released by the Ontario government, horsemen Jack Darling and Anthony MacDonald have issued letters offering their thoughts on what works and where there are areas for improvement.
In his blog, Darling states that Ontario's horse racing industry will not be able to grow without a better financial picture than what's being provided by the Panel.
"To have a sustainable future, any industry needs a chance to grow and prosper," stated Darling. "This makeshift deal that is happening now, where the government hands out money here and there will not work."
MacDonald likes the vision of the Panel with its Ontario Live Racing model but stated that it "can't be a pig with lipstick on; it has to be run correctly and have total accountability and transparency to both the government and the racing industry."
