Hanners Red-Hot At Scioto Thursday

Driver Austin Hanners took two of the three $27,397 divisions of the Buckeye Stallions Series for three-year-old trotting fillies at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Thursday, July 18...and he didn't stop there.

Hanners ended up winning six of the 15 races on Thursday’s card, with Chris Page taking four.

Hanners’ first win came with Justasiam As (pictured above) in the first division. Createaqueen (Dan Noble) took the early lead from post four and set fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:26.4. Justasiam As got away fourth from post nine and pulled first up before the half. By the three-quarter pole the pair were up to Createaqueen’s wheel and down the stretch got in front to win by three-quarters of a length. Createaqueen finished second with Uncle Petes Dream (Chris Page) getting up for third.

Justasiam As is owned by ACL Stuteri AB and trained by Anette Lorentzon. The homebred by Lionhunter now has six wins in 18 lifetime starts and $135,099 in earnings.

Champa Bay Hall won the third division, trotting her mile in 1:56.3. Kaminari (Aaron Merriman) took the early lead from post seven and led the field through fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:27.2. Champa Bay Hall got away fifth from post five and came first up before the half. Parked for the rest of the mile, Champa Bay Hall came home in :28.4 to win by a length over Amazing Face (Page) and Kaminari who finished third.

Champa Bay Hall is trained by Steve Carter for Jeff Fought Racing, Adam Friedland and Brian Carsey. The $9,000 Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale purchase is by Creatine and now has three wins in 12 seasonal starts with a bankroll of $55,543.

Page drove Westfiftyfive, the winner of the second division in 1:55.3. Possibility (Merriman) set the fractions of :27.2, :56.1 and 1:25.1. Westfiftygive got away seventh from the seven hole and pulled half-way down the backside. The pair steadily made up ground and went three-wide around the last turn to win by three-quarters of a length. After a first over grind, Tammie Sue (Chris Lems) was second and Possibility was third.

Westfiftyfive is a Long Tom homebred for Gary Condit who also owns the filly with trainer Ron Steck. She has now hit the board in seven of nine starts on the year and earned $73,977 lifetime.
