Newly minted track record holder Arbitrage Hanover will look to overcome the outside post in the premier test of the Prince County racing season in the $50,000 Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, on Saturday, July 18 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval has a 15-dash Governor’s Plate Night presentation starting at 5 p.m. (ADT), with the signature event lining up in the race 15 finale to complete Governor’s Plate Week 2026.
Get Wings will have rail control in the $50,000 final for driver Paul Langille, trainer Vaughan Doyle and owners Gary Ford of Stratford, P.E.I., and Janet Kinney of Wheatley River, P.E.I. The four-year-old son of Bettors Wish won his elimination in 1:52.4 and has recorded nine victories from 23 starts this season.
Defending Governor’s Plate champion Miki Shan N will leave from post two for trainer Chris Mackay with Corey MacPherson in the seat as he looks for his first Governor’s Plate victory. The New Zealand-bred pacer by Always B Miki finished second to Arbitrage Hanover in his elimination and has three wins and three seconds from 15 seasonal starts for owners Kap Singh Racing Stable of Yorktown Heights, New York, Stephen Klunowski of North York, Ont., Earl Hill Jr. of Ohsweken, Ont., and Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I.
Bee Two Bee has post three for driver Jason Hughes and owner MacRae. The nine-year-old son of Sunshine Beach has three wins from nine starts this season including a 1:52.3 win at Red Shores Charlottetown and finished third in his elimination as he tries to crown Ashley Gamester the first ever female trainer to win the prestigious event.
Ammo will leave from post four for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Ron Matheson and owners Woodmere Farms of Marshfield, P.E.I., and fellow Islander Pat Morris of Charlottetown. The Sweet Lou stallion has four wins from 15 seasonal outings and finished third in his elimination after winning his previous three starts.
JMR Speak Away will start from post five with Gilles Barrieau driving for trainer Darren Crowe. The five-year-old son of Artspeak has four wins from 20 starts this season including a 1:51.1 score over Woodbine Mohawk Park and finished fourth in his elimination for owner Kevin Harvey of Halifax, N.S.
The lone finalist stabled on the backstretch of Red Shores Summerside is Doc Awesome, who drew post six for driver Adam Merner and another female trainer on the quest for glory, Darla MacEachern. The six-year-old son of All Bets Off was second in his elimination after winning the previous start in a career best 1:52.2 for owners MacEachern, Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron, all of Summerside, P.E.I.
The Tulsa King has post seven for trainer/driver Mike McGuigan. The Shadow Play gelding has three wins from 13 starts this year and finished fourth in elimination action for the ownership duo of Mike Dicks of Wabanum, Alta., and Josh MacDonald of Little Pond, P.E.I.
Arbitrage Hanover will leave from post eight for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Clifford Murphy. The nine-year-old son of Bettors Wish delivered the fastest elimination victory with a 1:50.3 track record performance for Nova Scotia owners Ken Hardie of Bedford amd Glenn and Justin Hardie of Middle Sackville.
In the field of eight, only drivers Hughes, Barrieau and Campbell have previously won the race. On the training side, Matheson and MacKay are the only former winners.
In other action on the program, there are $20,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing colt Gold divisions in races three, seven and 10, $10,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for sophomore colts in races five, nine and 12, as well as the $15,000 Bob Dewar Memorial Governor’s Plate consolation in race 13 and the $17,500 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Final in race 14.
