Fighting to protect the front, Our Majordan A withstood quick fractions to retake command in the final turn and win the $123,100 William Haughton Memorial Consolation.
Driver David Miller shot Our Majordan A for the lead and took the field past the quarter in :26. Into the backside Geez Joe rolled first over towards the front and took over the lead just past the half in :53.2, but for only a brief period in the race.
Miller tipped Our Majordan A out of the pocket into the final turn and stuck a neck in front of Geez Joe past three-quarters in 1:20.3. Geez Joe continued to battle at the pylons into the stretch but Our Majordan A managed to inch away. Donttellmeagain charged quickest after the tiring duo, rallying towards the center of the course but charging too late as Our Majordan A maintained control to the finish of a 1:47.3 mile -- dropping his lifetime mark by two seconds.
An eight-year-old gelding by Art Major, Our Majordan A won his fourth race from nine starts this season and his 32nd from 97 overall, earning $441,093. Virgil Morgan Jr. trains the $12.00 winner for owners Evniro Stables Ltd., Ned Hodkinson and Milton Leeman.
