On the final night of the Friendship competition, an international amateur driving tournament hosted by the Italian National Amateur Drivers Association in Italy running from July 15 to 17, both the Canadian representative Sherwin Edwards and Italy's Mario De Luca were fired up

and ready to battle.

When the gate left, Edwards' mount, Luz Again, made a miscue and spotted the field 20 lengths before resetting. LA Miafesta, driven by the Italian champion, also made a miscue at the quarter pole and never made it back into the race. As the race progressed, Germany's D. Stegholer cut all the fractions and never looked back to score the victory.

There was a tight battle for second with the Serbian representative edging out Joe Faraldo of the USA in a photo finish. Edwards, who won the opening leg of the competition, managed to get his horse back into the race and finished seventh out of 13 starters.
Using the North American point system, Canada was named the overall winner of the drivers challenge with Germany taking the second spot on the podium and the USA having to settle for third.

The competition took place at Ippodromo Sant'Artemio in Treviso and Venice as part of the festivities celebrating 150 years of Italian independence.
