Veteran teamster Guy Gagnon was just one win away from 4,000 lifetime wins going into Sunday evening’s finale at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and pacing gelding Foolish Gem didn’t let him down.
Gagnon hustled the six-year-old son of I Am A Fool to immediate command from Post 5, and after slicing out splits of :27.2, :56.2 and 1:24 the pacer only needed a final quarter of :30.1 to seal the deal in 1:54.1 while helping his sulky-sitting partner achieve the memorable milestone.

Gagnon, who has racked up more than $19 million in purse earnings to date, achieved his 4,000 wins after from 22,779 trips behind the starting gate.
