It has been reported that legendary horseman Carter Duer, whose family operates Peninsula Farm in Kentucky and is especially known for prepping yearlings, was seriously injured in a car accident on Friday in Virginia, the home state of his family.

According to an article by harnessracing.com, Duer and his daughter, Donna, attended the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on Sunday night in Goshen to celebrate with client William Weaver and then drove to Virginia to visit relatives.

On Friday, Donna was driving their vehicle when a car ran a red light and slammed into her father's side of the car. Donna posted on her Facebook page that her father suffered a broken hip, compound fracture to his right femur (leg) and a double compound fracture to his right arm, as well as broken ribs on his left side.

Duer, who is 75, was airlifted to a Roanoke, Va., hospital and underwent five and a half hours of surgery to repair his injuries to his hip, leg and arm.

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Carter Duer a speedy and complete recovery from his injuries.
