Big miles are something Misterizi has put together in the past, but recently they’ve been hard to come by
. That all changed in Tuesday’s feature race at Georgian Downs.
The star trotting student from the stable of trainer Anthony Montini thumped his trotting foes into submission in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot for horses and geldings, and he did so in an eye-catching clocking of 1:53.2 for driver Rick Zeron.
Misterizi’s mile was just one fifth of a second short of equaling the Georgian Downs track record for older male trotters (Adam T – 1:53.1), and it came within two fifths of a second of equaling the Canadian record (Majestic Son – 1:53) for older trotting horses on a five-eighths mile oval.
Zeron positioned his charge into the four-hole when the gate sped away, and he stayed in that position while Titan Park threw down early panels of :28.1 and :57.2. Misterizi’s motor started revving when the field hit the backstretch, and he was near the flank of Titan Park at three-quarter pole in 1:26.
Misterizi summoned up his back class at that point, and he roared home in :27.1 win by more than nine lengths over Reve D Amerik. Brawn Seelster rounded out the top three in the six-horse affair.
Albina Montini, Eazy Racing and Paul Giammichele share ownership on the six-year-old son of Mr Lavec-Ramerizi, who put himself on the map last season when he turned in a World Record clocking of 1:51 in the $300,000 Nat Ray Invitational. The 1:53.3 performance will certainly serve as an excellent tightener as he gets set to square off with a number of this year’s top older trotters in the first of two Maple Leaf Trot eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack this Saturday evening.
