With racehorses in demand in virtually every racing jurisdiction in North America, one track has announced plans in an effort to keep its entry box full.
Live harness racing will return to Cal Expo under the Watch and Wager LLC banner this fall (on Saturday, October 24) with a new horse incentive plan in place.
Under the two-tiered system, qualifying horses that start on or before November 15 will receive $1,000 for their first start and $500 when they make their eighth start.
According to a release from Cal Expo, those qualifying trotters or pacers who start after November 15 and on or before December 31 will get $800 for the first start and $300 when they make their eighth start.
The incentives are for horses that have not started at Cal Expo since June 1 of 2014 and there are other restrictions.
There is also a returning horse incentive program that covers qualifying trotters and pacers who have competed at Cal Expo since June 1, 2014. There will be $400 paid for the first start if made on or before November 15, with $300 for the first start if made before December 31.

It's nice to see someone come
It's nice to see someone come up with an idea to recognize Horseman loyalty to their track. Management thinking outside of the box! Excellent work!
