Sudbury Downs regulars Check Le Look and Brawny captured the co-featured Preferred events at the Chelmsford, ON half-mile oval on Saturday night.

Check Le Look and trainer-driver David Dowling converted from the pocket to win the $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot in 1:59 by five and a quarter lengths over pacesetter Apeachtoremember (Paul MacLean). Bjs Fancy (Allan Hohner) rounded out the top three.

Sent postward as the 3-1 third choice in the field of six, Check Le Look paid $8.40 for his second consecutive win. The eight-year-old son of Glory B River-Flower Of Erin has won four of his 16 starts this season banking over $30,000 for co-owners David Haney of Waterloo and Lawrence Smith of Elmira, ON. The 27-time career winner is just shy of reaching $190,000 in earnings.

Later on the card, Brawny went wire-to-wire to win the matching Not Listed Preferred Pace in 1:56.1 for driver Allan Hohner and trainer Danielle Soulliere. The son of Cammibest-Blushin Love was one length better than Rush Rules (Patrick Rouleau). Pieraz (Pascal Berube) finished third.

Brawny, the odds-on favourite in the six-horse field, returned $4.70 to win for the fourth time in 16 outings this season and 17th time overall. The five-year-old gelding has earned $31,372 this year and $94,021 lifetime for owners Roger Brown of Lively and Donald Price of Powassan, ON.
