Marie Claude Auger and Gro Formia captured Saturday’s Mildred Williams Driving Series events
at Kawartha Downs.
Auger guided nine-year-old trotter Colombe Dream to a four and three-quarter length victory in 2:02.2 for trainer and owner Daniel Riley in the seventh race for $6,000 claimers. Samara Johnson finished second with Victory Felicia and Anita Valstad was third aboard Hilife Hall.
Formia was victorious with eight-year-old trotter Targui, who picked up his second straight front-end score in 2:01.2 for trainer Rocco Dincognito and owner David Grant of Sutton West, ON. Auger and Solar Jasper finished three and a half lengths behind and Obelix Du Ruisseau, with Valstad, came in third.
In regular racing action,a minor incident near the three-quarters mark during Saturday’s finale at Kawartha Downs unseated driver Des Takoor, but resulted in no serious injuries.
Midway down the backstretch, the second over Logical Direction and Des Tackoor appeared to run up on the horse he was following and clip the wheel of the bike. Consequently, Logical Direction made a nasty break causing Tackoor to fall off the back of the seat.
Luckily, the incident occurred near the back of the pack and the trailing Go Native (Steve Skilton) was able to avoid any further problems and steer clear of the fallen driver.
Logical Direction was loose on the track but was quickly contained by horsemen before any incidents occurred.
Reports from Kawatha indicate that no one was seriously injured in the incident.
