Standardbred Canada is excited to announce National Caretaker Appreciation Day events will return to racetracks starting on Aug. 30 and running through Sept. 16 (with an earlier date of July 7 for Dresden Raceway). Specific racetrack partners and event dates will be revealed soon.
In past years, owners, trainers, drivers, breeders and other facets of the industry have supported this event, understanding the importance of recognizing our industry's unsung heroes.
Besides racetrack events, trainers, training centres, breeding farms, owners and drivers are encouraged to join in and thank their caretakers, whether they're paddocking at the track or working at the farm or training centre.
Here are some ways to show your gratitude:
- Bring refreshments like coffee and doughnuts or muffins to the stable.
- Host a stable BBQ or arrange for a catered lunch.
- Give them a paid day off or a bonus.
- Give a thank you card along with a gift card.
- Purchase a win photo for them of one of the horses they care for after its next victory.
If you're interested in supporting this program through sponsorship or donations, contact your local participating racetrack or Jade Regina at Standardbred Canada.
The Faces of Racing series will also continue this year. This series has featured the stories of 42 caretakers from across the country since it began in 2018. If you have a caretaker you'd like to see featured, please email Jade Regina.
When posting photos or content for NCAD on social media, remember to use the event hashtag #NCAD2024.
