Warrens Charm added a fifth victory to her perfect seasonal record as she won the first $28,571 second-leg division of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) series for three-year-old pacing fillies on Tuesday, June 30 at Harrington Raceway.
The daughter of Hes Watching-Azure Deo was stuck wide entering the first turn and struggled briefly before hitting her stride and motoring on to the top past a :29 quarter for Tim Tetrick. Big Mamas Bet (Tony Morgan), first-over through the half in :57.3 and three-quarters in 1:26.4, pressured the leader into the last turn but tailed off at the head of the stretch. Longshot Moms Vision (Allan Davis) rushed up late but was denied by a neck by Warrens Charm, who tripped the beam in 1:56.2. Big Mamas Bet finished third.
Jason Skinner trains Warrens Charm, who is nine-for-12 lifetime. The filly, owned by Skinner and Rodney Wyatt, won a DSBF series at Harrington at two and heads into the final of the current event looking for a sweep after taking both prelims. She paid $2.10 to win.
Lovers Cay also went back-to-back in DSBF elim action with a 1:57.1 victory in the second division. She rolled to the lead from the inside post for Brandon Givens, reeled off splits of :29.2, :58.4 and 1:27.4, and was clear by 1-3/4 lengths at the line over Rockford Peaches (Corey Callahan). Sucha Sporty Girl (Shane Griffith) was third.
The winning daughter of Sports Column-Speaker Pelosi has three victories in 12 starts this season for trainer Kristyann Rash and owner Anthony Carson Jr. She is six-for-21 lifetime. The win price was $2.40.
The top eight point earners from the two legs of eliminations will square off in the $110,000 USD DSBF final on July 23.
In the $32,143 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace, Stevie Hanover ($9.80, Montrell Teague) was an impressive 1:53.3 winner by 2-1/4 lengths over Jett Propelled (Jason Thompson). Ragtime Red (Allan Davis) was third. Stevie Hanover, a four-year-old Betting Line-Shes A Fan mare, has won three straight distaff opens for trainer Jamie Sullivan and owner Frank Chick.
Live racing will continue on Wednesday before Harrington enters its final week of racing before its summer hiatus.
