'Aled' Wins Another CDP Preferred

Former WEG circuit campaigner Aled Hanover turned in his second consecutive victory in the $2,500 Preferred Pace at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday night.

Driven by Alex Sobey, Aled Hanover ($4.60) went from last to first to win the Saturday feature in 1:55.2. J K Special and Walter Cheverie finished nearly two lengths behind in second while Eagle Luck and Mark Bradley closed well for third.

The five-year-old gelded son of Western Hanover was purchased early this year by Ronald Hall of Wallace, N.S. and joined the Dale Sobey stable. He is now two-for-three in 2012 and boasts 16 wins on his lifetime record with purse earnings totalling $241,820.

Seven-year-old Angus Hall mare Warrawee Jade ($38.40) also put together back-to-back wins as she returned to the $1,800 Open Trot class for her owners, driver Brian Andrew of Milton Station, P.E.I. and trainer Blake Andrew of Montreal, Que. Warrawee Jade edged by favourite Caliban Hanover, in rein to Ronnie Gass, and Napanee Seelster, driven by Daniel MacDonald, in 2:00.2. The win was her second in 11 outings this year and 20th lifetime pushing her bankroll to $81,670.

Also on the card, Jeffery Wallace earned his first ever training triumph when seven-year-old Mark Jonathan gelding Southern Pee Wee ($19.70) converted from the pocket to win his conditioning assignment in 1:59.3 with four-time winning driver Gary Chappell aboard. The Alberton, P.E.I. resident now has six top three finishes from 17 career starts on his resume.

Racing action moves to Red Shores Summerside for a 15-dash Canada Day program featuring the Callbeck Stakes for two-year-olds while the Maple Leaf Trot stars three-year-old trotters in two divisions. Red Shores will also launch a brand new on track promotion with the $100,000 Dash For Cash. Customers will get complete details on site and from members of the broadcast team. One lucky customer will be chosen to list the complete order of finish on a select race and if successful will win $100,000. All the action will be carried world-wide at www.redshores.ca.
