A number of low-priced winners got the job done in their respective divisions of Tuesday’s City of London Series at Western Fair Raceway, but one longshot
winner managed to slip through the cracks.
That winner was Mystical Seelster, who erupted for a 39-1 upset for the duo of driver Chris Johnston and trainer Peter Core. The three-year-old daughter of Modern Art-Minx Seelster sat a pocket trip for the first half before brushing to the top and pulling away to win by more than a pair of lengths over Red On A Rose. Third prize went to Putnam Jordan. It was the first win of the season in six tries for the filly, who is owned by Donald and Heather McGregor of Camlachie, ON.
Owner Alan Kirschenbaum of Burbank, CA was more than happy to see his filly, Cats Meow, sink her claws into six foes in the opening division on today’s 12-race program. The three-year-old Goliath Bayama-Cataclysm miss front-stepped her way to a 1:57.4 win for trainer Dr. John Hayes and driver Trevor Henry. Outofthefryingpan was second and third was Aspidistra.
Henry took the next split with Intrepid Breeze, who went wire-to-wire in a time of 1:59 for trainer Ronnie MacLean and owners Murray Neilson of London and John Holmes of Tillsonburg, ON. It was a maiden-breaking win for the sophomore daughter of Intrepid Seelster-Miss Breeze Maker, who was a popular winner over Chatsworth and T L Caelans Cammie.
Driver Bruce Richardson and trainer Jim Ainsworth teamed up for a popular win of their own with the three-year-old Grinfromeartoear-Nadine Seelster filly, Quiteasassybanana. She quarter-pole moved to the lead and drew off to win by more than seven lengths over Casimir Hotpants in a time of 1:57.4. Random Blizzard rounded out the top three. Ross Holmes of Ilderton, ON holds the papers on the three-time winner.
The final division went to St Lads Treasure, who went coast-to-coast in 1:58 for driver Doug McNair and trainer Shawn Dearing. The four-year-old No Pan Intended-Silver Words miss won by more than length over Trickymasterpiece. Elate Hanover rounded out the top three. Donald Leschied of North Woodslee, ON owns the mare who won for the sixth time in nine career tries.
The $40,000 (added) final will go postward at Western Fair Raceway on Friday, June 19.
