Being in the harness racing industry for 48 years, Kevin Mack is still a horseman at heart. If you haven’t had a chance to meet this man, you are truly missing out on someone quite special.

Mack joined Hoosier Park in 2000 as director of Operations and racing secretary. He now works as race secretary. He is responsible for getting horses into races, as well as putting all the races together for each racing day. Mack can also be used as a fill-in announcer, which is among his many talents. He does this all with a smile on his face and having one of the most charismatic personalities Hoosier Park has to offer.

Mack only works during the standardbred meet, and once the season is over, he returns to his home in Holton, Indiana. He works as an announcer at the Indiana county fairs. Mack also works part-time as an auctioneer at various horse sales throughout the year. He also still stays active in his hometown sports program, assisting with coaching at his local high school.

Mack has owned, trained, driven, and judged horses. He’s also been a starter. You can say Mack is a jack of all trades when it comes to the horse racing industry. He has also been on both sides of the fence and says that is one thing he appreciates and something that not everyone knows.

“I love the horses, I love the people, and it’s all I’ve ever known,” said Mack. “It’s incredible how much work that goes into getting horses ready to race. The preparation and hard work the horsemen do to keep them fit and ready to race is something people should know about.”

Something you may not know about Mack is that he likes poetry. He also played college basketball at Earlham University. He is not allowed to gamble on the horses, but is not a big gambler anyway. He stands out in a crowd with his vivacious demeanor and passion for life. Mack is one of those people you just truly enjoy being around.

If you are ever in need of advice on horses or general racing information, Kevin Mack can assist you. He’s extremely knowledgeable and always welcoming to all kinds of racing fans.

“Hoosier Park is filled with great people,” said Mack. “It’s always been a great atmosphere and I enjoy getting to meet new people and working with such a great staff.”

It’s people like Mack that make Hoosier Park such a great atmosphere to be in.
