The legislative dispute over gaming at tracks in New Hampshire, which seemingly is a drama without end, continues this week with a special session of the legislature.
According to a story by Norma Love in the Nashua Telegraph, put it best when she wrote, concerning whether slots would or would not play a role in meeting the state’s projected $295 million budget shortfall, that a lantern was needed in the Statehouse dome, to indicate by “one lantern if video slots is in the budget bill or two if it is out...given the two chambers’ distrust of one another, anything can happen Wednesday,” when the issue is due to be debated.
According to the report, an informational session is scheduled for today.
The Senate wants slots; the House and governor do not. With Rockingham Park’s future at stake, even passage could be vetoed by Gov. John Lynch. This would appear to be the final act in the long-running melodrama.
