Second Leg Of Buckeye Series Coming Up At Northfield

Five divisions featuring 41 three-year-old colt pacers will take to the MGM Northfield Park track on Sunday, June 8 followed by five divisions featuring 37 three-year-old colt trotters on Monday, June 9 in search of a win in the second leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS). A total of $200,000 USD is on the line, with each division carrying a purse of $20,000 USD.

Six of the 10 divisions will feature winners from the first leg at Eldorado Scioto Downs on May 23-24.

The first division of colt pacers features opening-leg winners South Sea and Woodrow Blue Chip leaving side by side from posts four and five, respectively. At 2-1, Woodrow Blue Chip enters as the slight favourite over second choice South Sea (3-1). Driven by Dan Noble for trainer Ryan Miller, Woodrow Blue Chip has hit the board in four of five starts in 2025 and is seeking his second seasonal win. His lifetime best of 1:52.3 came in the opening leg of the BSS. The Lather Up gelding is owned by Miller Racing Stable, Redracer LLC, Roger Miller Jeff Bankey, and William Rufenacht. The Beau Brown-trained South Sea will be driven by Chris Page. The gelded son of Downbytheseaside has hit the board in four of five starts this season, posting two victories. Owned by David Wills and Robert Conley, his lifetime best of 1:52.1 came in the opening leg of the BSS.

First-leg winner Accuracy By Volume is the 5-2 second choice behind 2-1 favourite Believe In Tom in the second division. Believe In Tom has two wins in three starts this season. Trained by Steve Novak, the gelded son of Long Tom will be driven by Marc St. Louis Jr. He is owned by Gerald Mijal. After recording a lifetime-best 1:54.1 in the opening leg, Accuracy By Volume will leave from the rail on Sunday seeking his second win in three seasonal starts. Driven by Page for trainer Scott Betts, the Lost In Time gelding is owned by Timothy Betts.

In the third division, Fabio Hanover is leaving from the far outside as the 2-1 favourite. The Virgil Morgan Jr. trainee has two seconds and one third in three seasonal starts and will be driven by Noble. The Downbytheseaside gelding is owned by Douglas Overhiser, FAC Racing and John Schwarz Jr. At 5-2, Go Accordingly and Derby Up share the same morning line odds for second choice.

Twin B High Tide is the 7-5 favourite in the fourth division with 5-2 second choice Johnny Smash. Driven by Austin Hanners for trainer Alicia Hanners, Twin B High Tide finished third in his lone prior start this season. The Downbytheseaside colt is owned by Hanners Racing.

At 3-1, House Of Brix enters as the favourite in the fifth division seeking his second seasonal victory after winning in a lifetime-best 1:52 in the opening leg of the BSS. Driven by Trevor Smith, the Jeff Smith trainee will leave from the far outside. The gelded son of Catch The Fire is owned by James Everhart and Kathy Smith. My First Fire (7-2) is the second choice.

First-leg winners Sippinonsearoc, Harrisburg Heist, Ohohoh Im On Fire and Swingtown are not entered in the second leg. Sippinonsearoc and Swingtown will be among the 23 three-year-old pacers competing in the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup elimination races at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday. Ohohoh Im On Fire is entered in Saturday’s second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes at Northfield Park.

In the first of the five divisions of colt trotters, Smoke One For Me is the even-money favourite and will leave from post three alongside second choice Born To Trot (5-2) in post four. Dan Noble is driving the Christi Noble-trained Smoke One For Me. The gelded son of Long Tom is seeking his second victory in seven starts this season. He is owned by Norman Rae Racing. Born To Trot won in the opening leg of the BSS in a lifetime-best 1:56 and is seeking his second victory in six seasonal starts. Chris Lems is tabbed to drive the Uncle Peter gelding for trainer Deborah Swartz, who co-owns the horse with Thomas Michael Adams.

Along Came Tom will leave from the rail as the 9-5 favourite in the second division. Noble is scheduled to drive the Swartz trainee, who has one win and one second in nine starts this year. The Long Tom gelding is owned by Swartz and Gail Impson. Tiny Tom is the 3-1 second choice.

In the third division, first-leg winner Rose Run Ari will leave from the far outside as the 2-1 second choice to 9-5 favourite Uncle Moneybags. Aaron Merriman will drive Uncle Moneybags for trainer Chris Beaver. The gelded son of Uncle Peter is seeking his first win in seven starts this season. He is owned by Beaver, Barry Carter, VIP Internet Stable, and Tim Homan. Driven by Austin Hanners for trainer Todd Luther, Rose Run Ari has two wins in five starts this season and posted a lifetime-best 1:55.1 in the opening leg. The Triumphant Caviar gelding is owned by Greg Luther Racing.

Power Hill enters as the 2-1 favourite with second choice Tom Cruiser (5-2) in the fourth division. Merriman is tabbed to drive the Mike Sowers-trained Power Hill, who is seeking his first win in four starts in 2025. The gelded son of What The Hill is owned by Michael Sowers.

In the fifth division, 8-5 favourite Divine Will leaves from the rail next to 3-1 second choice Full Moon Howl. Hanners will drive Divine Will for trainer Daren Harvey. The Enterprise gelding has two wins in six starts this season and is owned by Michael Soehnlen. First-leg winner Tommy Count is the 7-1 fourth choice with Sugg in the sulky for the Carter trainee. His win in the opening leg in a lifetime-best 1:56 is his lone victory in four starts this season. The Long Tom gelding is owned by Jeff Fought Racing, Adam Friedland and Brian Carsey.

First-leg winners Jet Wings, I Stand Alone AS and Vandy Lane are not entered in the second leg.

The Buckeye Stallion Series races are part of a 15-race card and 16-race card at Northfield Park on Sunday and Monday, respectively. The first race post time for both days is 6 p.m.
