Mildred Williams Series Stops At Woodstock

Woodstock Raceway played host to the Mildred Williams Driving Series in support of breast cancer on Saturday afternoon with the ladies taking over the driving duties in races two and four. Ann Larsen and Gro Formia captured their respective assignments

in line to a pair of veteran geldings.

Runing Water and Larsen got away fourth from Post 8 in the second race for $4,000 claimers and went first up past the halfway point to track down pacesetter Arawana Albert (Charlotte Hockman). The nine-year-old son of Water Tower-Leucetta took over in the stretch and sailed to victory in 2:00.1. Mr Pogge (Angie Matthews) finished second 1-1/2 lengths behind off a pocket trip and favourite Suntan Place (Marie Claude Auger) was third.

Richard Carroll trains Runing Water, who paid $8.60 to win as the 3-1 second choice, for owner-breeder Bruce Carroll of Rodney, ON. The victory was the gelding’s first of the season in 14 tries and 15th lifetime pushing his bankroll to $107,094.

Timeless Drifter pulled off a 7-1 upset in the following Mildred Williams event, which also featured $4,000 claimers. With Formia in the bike, the 11-year-old son of Jate Lobell-Keystone Chick advanced first up from third after the opening quarter and applied pressure to pacesetter Bio Babacar (Marie Brooking), eventually wearing him down with a :29.4 final frame to score in 2:00.4. Favourite Western Rival (Charlotte Hockman) finished two lengths behind over Bio Babacar.

Don Meekison Jr. owns and trains Timeless Drifter, who kicked back $16.90 for the win. The gelding scored his first victory of the season in three outings and 23rd lifetime pushing his earnings to $167,406.
