Dowling Sweeps Inverness Stakes

Driver David Dowling has been on an absolute tear of late. On Sunday afternoon (June 30), he took his talents to northern Nova Scotia, where he swept both $9,660 Atlantic Sires Stakes events for three-year-old pacing fillies at Inverness Raceway.

In the first division, Dowling enjoyed a pocket trip with Howmac Sabrina ($7.50), who stalked Unapologetically (Marc Campbell) through splits of :30.1 and :58.4 before pulling the pocket on the backstretch. After reeling in Unapologetically nearing the turn for home, Howmac Sabrina dug in to parry a late charge from 4-5 favourite Cheeky Cherry (Mary Clare MacDoanld) and prevail in 1:58.4.

Brittany Watts and Windemere Farms share ownership of Howmac Sabrina, whose first win of 2019 lifts her career total to four. Michael Dowling trains the daughter of Malicious.

The second division saw Dowling generate an early breakaway for the lead with Woodmere Oleksiak ($12.20), and she scored comfortably in 1:57.4 from there. The daughter of Articulator reeled off fractions of :28.2, :57.1 and 1:27.4 before pulling 3-1/2 lengths clear of even-money choice Arc Light (Campbell).

Earl Watts trains two-time winner Woodmere Oleksiak for Hollis Newson, Debbie Denney, Ric McNutt and Windemere Farms.

In the sub-featured $1,150 winners-over pace, Intended Royalty ($4.20) notched his third straight win, scoring a 1:58.1 pillar-to-post decision with Redmond Doucet aboard for trainer Randy Copley.
