After an announcement that 2015 World Driving Champion and downunder driving star Dexter Dunn would be testing the waters in North America this summer, his arrival has been delayed for a rather ironic reason.
Reports indicate that U.S. immigration is withholding Dunn's work visa until he can provide more proof that he is, in fact, a world class driver.
"I now have a lawyer up there working on it for me," Dunn told the New Zealand Herald. "It is frustrating and obviously I had hoped to be up there driving already but there isn't much I can do about it.
"I respect the fact it is harder to get working visas up there than it used to be but I am still keen to go," Dunn continued. "But really I would have liked to be there at least two weeks ago, getting some drives and setting up for the summer."
In his late May interview revealing the news, Dunn noted that he did have the support from trainers like Chris Ryder in advance of his arrival. But the delay in paperwork could curtail Dunn's plans to partake in the 2018 North American harness racing season altogether.
"I am still hopeful it will happen but if it takes too long I might not go at all. I'm really in limbo at the moment and can't plan anything, here or there, until I know about the visa."
