Ron Matheson became the newest member of the 1,000 win club when he guided D Gs Camme to victory in the ninth race during the Sunday afternoon race program at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park.

Matheson cleared to the lead past the three-quarter pole and was alone in the stretch for the memorable photo and a sparkling mile of 1:55.1. The Charlottetown pilot was greeted in the winner’s circle by family and friends for the special presentation. D Gs Camme is co-owned by Matheson, Quentin and Hal Bevan and Tom Clark of Charlottetown.

The heat-wave produced some big miles on the afternoon with Cheyenne Ford also tripping the timer in 1:55.1 taking the top Preferred class for trainer/driver Kenny Arsenault and owner James O’Halloran of Montague, P.E.I. Ultimate Luck (Ken Murphy) cut the fractions and held on for second with Temp Seelster (Vince Poulton) third.

Tymal Tyme and Brian MacPhee won the trot class beating stablemate Saulsbrook Balance by head in 2:02 for trainer Cynthia MacDonald and owner Tessa MacKinnon of Souris, P.E.I.

Foxyhall Racing's Say It Again Sam kept his undefeated sophomore streak rolling, scoring his sixth in a row in 1:56.2 with trainer/driver Jason Hughes aboard.

MacPhee, Arsenault, Marc Campbell and Mike McGuigan each posted driving doubles on the day.

Canada Day Card Set For Red Shores Summerside

Narrangansett is the morning line favourite in top class of the Canada Day program at Red Shores Summerside on Tuesday. Post time is 1 p.m.

Jason Hughes will drive Narrangansett for Foxhall Racing of Summerside from post two. Race analyst Jared Stretch likes this combination. “Hughes has been on fire this season and it’s no wonder taking the reins on horses like this. Narrangansett has some of the best closing numbers on the board so he’s surely the one to beat.”

PC Shockwave has a shot of knocking off the favourite after posting three miles in the 1:56 range. Brian MacPhee will do the driving for trainer Wade Sorrie. Lisfinny will put a three race winning streak on the line for Norris Rogers. The power-packed field includes Acton O So Royal, Carrera Angel, Every Day, Lucky Encounter and Blissful Bro.

The trotters will take center stage in race four with Stretch landing on Honeymoonisover as his top choice. Brian Andrew will drive from outside post six. The field includes Pure At Heart, Lets Trade Ladies, Southview Shadow, Scarlet Patti, and I Aint No Lady.

Ultimate Lambama, trained by Philip Desroches of Coleman, will try to extend her winning streak to four. Marc Campbell will do the driving.
