Coleman Steps Up For SRF

O'Brien Award winning trainer Casie Coleman is doing her part to help the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.

Tonight (Friday, June 29), when Ram Rocker leaves the gate in the eleventh race at the Meadowlands Racetrack, the three-year-old filly will be pacing to make a difference.

Coleman, who is the 50 per cent owner of the filly (who is favoured in the race), will be donating her share of the winnings of the $14,000 purse to help the organization.

“It’s a great way to help, a great idea, I am happy to do it,” said Coleman, who operates large racing stables both north and south of the border.

“People have been wonderful, like Casie, calling and emailing with offers to help us through this obstacle," said SRF President Paula Campbell. "We greatly appreciate Casie’s support and we’ll be out there hoping for a win tonight.”

Driver David Miller will be steering Ram Rocker on Friday. Miller is also a longtime supporter of the SRF, and actually has one of SRF’s horses at his home that his family enjoys riding.

“This paints a picture of racing that people don’t usually see," Miller said. "We care about what happens to these horses.”

SRF is being forced to leave its leased home after nearly five years (the farm is home to 42 standardbreds). An outpouring of support has led to homes for 14, and other means of support in their search for a new place to operate from.
