A regular Thursday racing card in early June turned out to be a special day for young horseman Zac Noye.
The son of Mary Jean and Jay Noye of Cornwall, P.E.I. was hoping that weeks of meticulous planning would yield the desired result after the 13th race was staged at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday, June 8. Except it was not a regular race result that he was hoping for.
Zac, who is graduating from Bluefield High School this year, had put together a plan to help him convince a fellow horsewoman involved in P.E.I. harness racing to attend his upcoming prom. What better way to get the attention of a fellow harness racing enthusiast than to organize a promposal in the winner’s circle on race night?
What Zac could not have scripted is that three-year-old pacing filly Ms Chantalmachabay, trained by family friend Ken Wilkie and owned in part by Zac’s mother, would win the 13th race.
As friends and family looked on, Zac bravely popped the question to Alexis Gass trackside in the form of a written proposal on a cooler that was presented to his mother’s horse.
Thankfully, Alexis said 'yes' and the rest, as they say, is history!
