Pierre Bovay and his student, Emma Town Bud, made every pole a winning one before hanging on at the wire to win the featured $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday, June 27.
Bovay and the seven-year-old gelding trotter zoomed from post four to take the top. Without looking back, Emma Town Bud clicked out the fractions in :28.1, :57.3, and 1:26.2. Warrawee Xalt (Ryan Guy) provided a hefty challenge in the stretch, but Emma Town Bud won the photo finish by a nose in 1:56. Ima Standup Guy (Robert Shepherd) finished third.
Emma Town Bud (Big Stick Lindy - Centerfold Lady) won his eighth win from 15 starts this year and moved his career record to 20-12-7 from 70 starts. Owned by Nicole Bovay Gurtner, he added to his career bankroll to sum $323,853 in earnings. As the bettors' choice, he paid $3.50 to win.
Trainer Mandy Archer harnessed three victors on the card with Munk (Guy Gagnon) winning in 1:58, Jadensmagicsteel (Pascal Berube) scoring in 1:55.2, and Big Cheddar (Robert Shepherd) completing the hat trick with a 1:55.4 win.
Carson Star Choice (Betterthancheddar - Carsons Ladyluck) won his fifth straight race in the conditioned claimer worth $6,800 with Guy Gagnon piloting his student to a 1-3/4 length score in 1:53.4.
