Astronomical Union and driver Marc Campbell captured the Thursday night feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The four-year-old Astronomical pacer was a winner in 1:55.3 for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford, PEI. Campbell moved Astronomical Union to the front end past the :28.2 first quarter, before laying down his next fractions in :57.1 and 1:26.1 and drawing to a one length victory. Blue Star Outlaw (Jason Hughes) was second with CL Eighty (Kenny Arsenault) third.
The evening trot event had Anita Blossom land in the winner’s circle after a 2:02.1 victory for driver Brian MacPhee and owner-trainer Ambyr Campbell. Dee Dee Pucker (Hughes) was second in the $1,100 event, with Scarlet Patti (Darryl MacLean) third.
Gilles Barrieau made his presence on PEI known with a convincing 1:56.1 score aboard Panacotta. The top New Brunswick reinsman mapped out the winning trip for owner Shane Baglole of Cornwall and trainer Blaine Baglole. Barrieau has moved to PEI for the summer racing season.
Katie Miller scored a driving double, winning with Rose Vance (1:57.1) and More Than Amazing (2:02.2).
Racing continues Saturday night at Red Shores Charlottetown with a 6 pm first race post time. Summerside Raceway will hold cards Sunday and Monday, both kicking off at 1 p.m.
