Fillies Flaunt It At Mohawk

Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted a 13-race qualifying session on Friday (June 26), and a pair of fillies that debuted impressively last week came back with better performances during this week's card.

The track was rated 'good' by the AGCO judges for the first six of the 13 qualifiers, with a one-second variant applied.

Warrawee Welcome showed her winning performance from a week ago was no fluke with a solid second qualifier, the fastest of the five carded for two-year-old trotting fillies.

An off-the-pace winner a week ago, Warrawee Welcome was pointed to the lead in this week's test for trainer-driver Mario Baillargeon and the filly responded impressively. After opening fractions of :30.4, 1:01.1 and 1:31, Warrawee Welcome trotted home in hand with :28.3 final quarter speed to cross under the wire in 2:00.1. The debuting Meadowview Lilly (Mark Etsell) followed along impressively in second, a length back of the winner with Classy Carol (Paul MacDonell) a solid third.

Purchased from the 2019 London Selected Yearling Sale for $41,000, Warrawee Welcome (Muscle Mass - Noble Peace Prize) is owned by Thestable Welcome Group of Guelph, Ont.

On the pacing side, Twin B Sunkissed showed her manner extend onto the racetrack as well with a swift and wrapped-up 1:56 score to record the fastest pacing mile of the morning. Another off-the-pace winner from a week ago, Twin B Sunkissed and driver Bob McClure made every call a winning one this week after early fractions of :29.1, :57 and 1:26 to cruise home five lengths better than Annies Legacy (Jody Jamieson) and Jackieofalltrades (Sylvain Filion).

A $20,000 Harrisburg purchase, Twin B Sunkissed (Sunshine Beach - Western Heat) is owned by trainer Francis Dumouchel of Princeton, Ont. with Ecurie CSL of Sorel-Tracy and 9174 7998 Quebec Inc. of St-Janvier-Mirabel, Que. The filly made headlines before stepping foot on the racetrack after her connections posted a video of the filly and her barn-mate Bruno that went viral on Facebook, gathering more than two million views, and was featured in SC's Standardbred Canada's digital Twos In Training Report this past May.

The baby races continue at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (June 27) with 10 dashes carded for two-year-old male pacers.

Thanks to COSA for showing these races. As an owner that can't go to the track and watch his investment it sure is appreciated. Great job by the 2 hosts!!
